At least we can critically think here! This demonstrates what is taking over schools slowly but surely these days.
I agree, the administrators feel like they can control teachers and that teacher should be careful about their outside life. However, they let certain select few post all their agendas and ideologies with no repercussions. We actually had one of our admins post that if you voted for a certain president not to talk to her and to unfriendly yourselves and quit following any of her Social Media accounts.
In the current social climate, he didn't do anything wrong with his information, but the specific topic he chose was too controversial for the school to handle obviously. He was terminated because of a technicality, because he spoke on a controversial topic and the school didn't feel like fighting that fight. I think critical thinking is an incredibly important skill but it's getting harder and harder to teach that skill in todays sensistive climate.
I can understand a little if he was posting stuff during contract time. But when he is not on the clock, doesn't he have some freedom? The school corporation doesn't own you!
I’m not seeing anything wrong in what he did or how he did it. This is classic Socratic method. We use this in my classes to narrow down options for solving story problems in math. You figure out what is actually presented, what is relevant, what options are available, and then you move forward. I have no idea what admin found objectionable beyond the topic itself, which the professor didn’t introduce and didn’t really directly address. If I was still teaching debate, I would actually show this as an example of a good cross examination dialogue.
