Not the same. One is based on past behavior and rehabilitation the other is based on current practice.
By your argument we'd have to reward criminals with better jobs as soon as they've done the crime to make them the same thing.
@OP, you are the one with the mental gymnastics and it's baiting + you missed my point entirely. Your stretch to make an absurd, unbalanced, point laughable.
“Yet the same movement” makes it a lot easier to make this argument a win. Otherwise, you would have to actually consider the merits of the criminal justice reform movement on a standalone basis. If you did some self-reflection, you’d realize this post is mostly motivated by fear.
I cannot speak to the original poster’s motivation, but I can speak to the error in presentation. For all that I know, there may have been a cogent thought — it just did not make it through.

Not sure what your point is. Those who are in favor of criminal justice reform are part of a “broad church”. Just because some people in that group complain about the CURRENT acts of someone on Twitter AND the need for rehabilitation, doesn’t mean we should stop doing both. I do think “cancel culture” can be extreme, but if someone is willing to publicly be a racist (within the bounds of free speech), then they also have to deal with the consequences. As the other contributor stated, your assertion that these two things are comparable and that you can’t have one without the other is a long bow to draw.

ACN2 there are far too many examples to count of people on the left extricating other people on the left for not adhering to the orthodoxy. It’s not even worth listing. Go do your own research. It’s a cancer that’s going to destroy the Democrat party.
I would assume any ex-con is in the same situation of being exposed by cancel culture if their job finds out they say/do culturally inscendiary things online. But they need the opportunity to be hired before they are fired.

A1, then don’t speak on stuff that you don’t fully understand or agree with such as recognizing systemic racism for the horror that it is
Some ex-cons have repeatedly went back to jail or prison after being released while some were locked up for one mistake and have been changing their lives for the better.
Racists on this app have clean background checks or have TS clearances, but they are more harmful to me and other black people than ex-cons are. At least the violent ex-cons aren’t on the loose to wreck havoc.

Who exactly in the criminal reform movement is saying that rapists can be reformed but not someone making an offensive comment? Source?
Nobody, but that’s harder to argue against.
