In the US, an AE or AM tends to be interchangeable titles, depending on the agency. AS would be the next senior level.
Weird I always thought it was just a matter of phrasing. Just like associate versus assistant
AE does the work, AM gets the credit
AE1, same thing in the US. Also sometimes called Account Supervisor.
An account manager is more senior. An AE will do more of the reporting and day to day things, while the AM tends to lead the decisions on briefing and presenting to clients, picking partners for a campaign etc. The AE can be involved in all that, but the AM makes the call.
This is advertising. Advertising sell things. The paycheck is the answer to your question.
@AE2 - my point above. Titles does not pay the rent, salary does.
Where I've worked, there is none, just semantics.
The same thing. Very little difference in terms of real experience. Client usually seems them as the same. I e still a doer not yet really in charge of anything. For that you need a supervisor or account director.
Whose dick you gotta squeeze
I think there may be a difference in the UK and US with this. Account manager in UK = the role between Account Executive and Account Director.
But there's no consistency at all. Some agencies use AM as supervisor (ex BBDO) while some use it for AE.
