On average... no. With the exception of Mother, the best agencies grind their people into the ground with few perks. Where as the places with the best quality of life are at the lower end of creativity: digital, media focused shops, etc. for reasons beyond me advertising works the opposite of other industries. The perks and salary decrease as you climb to better quality creative agencies.
No. But a good workplace situation is infinitely better for your mental health than a place that does good work but makes you miserable. You can brag all you want about your 80+ hour weeks... literally nobody outside your 80+ hour group cares or think it's cool.
Thought that was a "choose two" scenario.
Not since the late 70's to mid 80's. In other words, DDB when Bill was still alive.
I think the exception to this is consultancies. But yeah in general agencies seem to bribe you into staying at places where the work makes you want to die. Getting to make good work then basically stands in for compensation.
Do agencies like that even exist?
If the there were more than a handful of places making anything that's worthwhile, compensation would likely be better. But instead, the handful is getting smaller. Yay advertising!
