Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

I’m doing my masters in CS part time so I can have a better career as a data scientist. Each week it’s anywhere from 5-20 extra hours outside of work
Where are you doing it at?

How exactly do you do this?
I do, maybe 5 hours a week. Not super intense, just reading things and watching videos here and there.

Ya just being aware is like more than half the battle
I do stuff as simple as listen to a data science podcast on my daily walks and it’s great! I like Ken’s Nearest Neighbors, Super Data Science, and DataFramed

Outside of degrees or certs, if you want to remain relevant you have to know what’s out there. The landscape changes and we can quickly become obsolete without the right knowledge or skill sets. I read every day blogs and journals, as well as follow certain leaders in industry. It’s hard to sell someone on a product they no longer need.

All your big news outlets (Forbes, WaPo, NYT, etc) have tech sections to follow. But also there is cybernews, datasciece.org, and others that produce good research articles and white papers. Matt Dancho, Steve Nouri and others on LI post a lot of great content.
