Do most of you work in open office spaces or do you have your own offices? Curious if other editors find it impossible to focus when people are having meetings and calls near you.

I’ve worked in both a lot. With good headphones and music loud during all the moments you don’t need to hear the edit then it’s totally fine and helps me focus a ton

I’ll work wherever they pay me to, but not having a suite sucks for me and my clients

Own office. Used to be in an open office and I didn’t mind, but for reviews it was very disruptive to others nearby. I was also spooked about hearing loss from using headphones while editing. Monitors are the way to go for me. But if I need to do some detail work or cleanup I pull out the cans

I’ve experienced both through freelancing. Open spaces are rough. Less because I have trouble focusing (I manage to get in my zone and tune everyone else out) but it’s basically impossible to edit collaboratively.

Service design seems a popular role in consulting in the past year or so, certainly seeing more grads go down this route. Is there much overlap with business analysis? When I’ve worked with service designers the output seems to be another version of a process map, are there other skills and experience needed? I’m wondering how easy a move would be from business analysis to service design...

As it’s been getting colder I’ve been dabbling in soups. This is a brie and mushroom soup paired with balsamic onion & mushroom toast. It was super tasty and really hit the spot. It can also be used in place of cream of mushroom from a can in recipes if you’re looking for a different taste.

Thinking about making the jump from senior level in-house to freelance. 12+ years experience. Shoot, edit, color, after effects, mix, etc. What kind of day rate could I expect in Mpls or Chi?

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.

What would you do in this situation? I signed a schedule A for one weeks work at Company A for $600 per day and then company B offered me 2 weeks work at $800 per day.

Anyone have a magic number that would make you give up freelancing and take a staff job? (New York)

How much does a post house typically charge an advertising client for editing in NYC? Whether that’s hourly, daily, etc.

When you do a cut and you’re super excited and proud. And then the director weighs in and it gets even better! And then... the client makes it worse. And worse again. And worser still. Sigh.
