I mean it’s both and neither. You can’t fault people for wanting to visit nor the local economy to make revenue from it. Magic lost is a real thing. Places have certainly changed and lost their allure. Try to push the boundaries and find the new spots. A lot of Eastern Europe isn’t over travelled. Balkans is starting to get it with Croatia, Greece, Albania, but so many hidden gems
This is the tourism lifecycle. Once a place gets big, it becomes a burden on the locals there. The government should try to step in and manage the situation. Eventually, a destination will go into stagnation mode. As a traveler, look for places that aren’t so popular to visit if you want a quieter experience.
Honestly? Social media is the problem. A once-hidden gem goes viral, and suddenly, it’s swarmed with people who just want the “perfect shot.” Tourists aren’t ruining travel—influencers chasing engagement are. If you really want to see a place, go beyond the Instagram hotspots and actually experience it instead of just documenting it.
