When I started at the hospital I was intimidated. I probably watched too many hospital shows on TV, where the doctor MUST be obeyed in all things. After a year I noticed that the nurses who had been there for some time never batted an eye when a doctor would say something like "can you put this away for me" or "is there any coffee made in the break room?" Meanwhile, I was just carrying and fetching and throwing trash away like that's why I went to college. That's when I realized that the nursing supervisor is my boss, not the doctors. If a doctor and I are treating a patient, then he is in charge because it is his patient and I am his assistant. If we are standing at the nurse's station and he wants to throw away a paper cup, he doesn't need my assistance to achieve that goal.

Some docs are so difficult to work with !
I used to when I first started nursing but then another nurse told me they put their pants on one leg at a time like we do and the only difference is that they have a little bit more school. After that I just started talking to them like a coworker and everything has worked out. The only exception is when you get a doctor that thinks their poop don’t stink and can be an a$$hole, I just have to treat them a little different until they realize that they are in the wrong( it’s normally the newer doctors)

Yea some are difficult I’m glad the majority are not like that
Your experience will vary, but I was fortunate to have a very nice doctor around when I first started. Was also extremely intimidated to talk to them. Of course, each individual doctor has their own personality, some better than others, but we are all here for work and working together makes it easier.

Yes some are super easy to talk with others are not at all!
No, however I had one who I had been working with have a bout of amnesia and forgot id been with him daily. Turned to me and gave me the what for in the middle of report and that has been a rift for me. He was clearly corrected by myself and others on the round and I got nothing as far as an "oops" or "I'm sorry". I stopped rounding with that service and they no longer get documented credit for rounding with me. I know I was more informed doing so, so at some point I'm going to need to round with them again....BUT I'm just not there yet.
