On the weekends, yes. Oddly, have no issue doing so on vacation. I shut all work notifications off. Maybe I should do the same on the weekend...pay more respect to my personal time.
It still happens all the time. Oddly enough I find that if I just spend a little time on Friday night or over the weekend, planning out the next week or just sort of revising my long range and short term to do list and maybe catching up on a few emails, I don’t feel the scaries as much. It’s sort of like tricking your brain. Make it think you’ve closed some open loops or will soon close them, and it results in you feeling less anxious. The anxiety is a double edged sword really - on one hand it’s good. Keeps you sharp, on top of shit, conscientious. On the other, it can burn you up and cripple you. Just do the little things to keep it at a safe level so you can function.
Also try to remember that very few mistakes/delays are unfixable or truly important in the grand scheme. Refusing to do work or pick up phone on any given day probably won’t end your career.
Very hard to disconnect for me. Worried it will eventually lead to burn out, so I’ve been trying to fix this bad habit.
Yes! Waking up lately midstream in thought about a case, argument I could make, piece of work I should or could be doing, it’s torture lately.
Yes — I have a habit of thinking about work all the time. Very hard to switch it off. Something I need to work on (and am actively working on) so that I’m 100% “there” when I’m home with my wife and kids.
This is something that is so important yet so hard to master. It helped once I moved my office upstairs, tried to limit the phone time, etc. Im really not the meditation type but I actually heard short meditation between transitioning to some other part of the day actually helps. It’s like a slow switch to flip, which make sense because when you’re deep into focusing on something your brain needs at least 10 mins to transition out of it (attention residue or something)
