Do you go hard on upselling? I’ve worked in places where we were expected to upsell like car salesmen and others where the philosophy was “keep it chill and let the food speak for itself.” Personally, I hate being pushy, but I get that upselling drives revenue and keeps managers happy. Still, I feel gross suggesting dessert to a table that clearly just wants the check.

I agree with B1 - gotta strike a balance. A lot of times people don’t even know what they want or what experience they could have. Upselling if done well ends with a better tip. :) On the reverse side, you get someone who didn’t want to spend that much… then down goes that tip…

I think there’s a balance. Suggesting things naturally—like wine pairings or popular apps can feel genuine instead of pushy.

We certainly have people suggest desserts, but there's no pressure tactics involved. That would be tacky. If things are going well and people order desserts or extra drinks, that's great. But trying to force it ruins the atmosphere and would make people think twice about coming back.
