Do you “prioritize” vacations? Ie, willingly work more on one than another, if you can? Just took a trip that I managed to not work a lot on, but feeling kinda bad and wondering if I should work more on the next one I’m taking in a few months (which is with my in-laws, so honestly don’t mind having an excuse to get a break from them lol)

You should not work on vacation. You’re not indispensable and it’s not vacation if you’re working.

I’m an 8th year M&A associate up for partner (and all likelihood making it). I’ve never worked on vacation sans a call here or there to tell my coverage where something is or to answer a quick question about the deal.

like

Why would you intentionally work on vacation?

like

I only work on vacation if absolutely necessary (i.e., the partners couldn’t find coverage for me and urgent things pop up). I’m definitely not willingly cracking open that laptop when I’m supposed to be OOO. I’d literally rather do just about anything else.

Feeling bad is wild. Come on.

like

Yes kind of. I take two types of vacation: (1) full on usually international travel where I get coverage and do all I can to unplug and (2) a working trip during a lull where I stay available and don’t advertise I am traveling (also works bc I am at a firm without meaningful office presence requirement).

I’m looking to transition from an academic medical center to pharma or a biotech. I have about 8 years of clinical research experience overall — 7 years combined as a CRC (CRC I, CRC II, and senior CRC) and 1 year as a PM. I’m also recently ACRP-CP certified.

I’ve worked with many different industry-sponsors and CROs throughout the years, but many jobs I am applying to require experience at a biotech/CRO/pharma company. Would really appreciate any advice or referrals. Thanks in advance!

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)
