I’ve been able to do it from home this past winter and current busy season in tax it’s just taxable to us now
During busy season weekdays, when we ate our OT dinners at the client site, it wasn’t taxable. On the weekends, we worked and ate our OT dinners at the EY office and had to make sure we selected the expense type so it was taxable. Same thing applies to working anywhere else that isn’t at the client site
On my engagements these don’t get charged to the client. So it’s a true cost to the firm. I think that’s how it is for the most part in my group.
And no I don’t think the policies are going to change on expensing meals while at home.
Why should the firm pay for your meal at home? The reason for paying OT meals is that you are having to be away from home while working. That’s enough reason for no OT meals at home. On top of that people would sometimes get food for their family or roommates and charge through.
No
Do what I do. Take one day on the weekend and cook several big meals that freeze well and you will have a variety for weeks to come, especially if you continue this process each week.
