Do you think the best engineering decisions are usually the simplest ones? The longer I’ve worked on complex systems, the more I appreciate solutions that are easy to explain.

Easy to explain, easy to implement, and simple in design are not one and the same. You can have a complex system that is easy to explain it's core operations and functions and yoy can have a very simple system that's extremely complex to explain especially when it's very abstract from the conventional way of thinking. Do not confuse systems and the explanation of those systems.

I’ve been a licensed general lines (2-20) insurance agent for year and a half and have sold around 2M in premium, of which most of it is personal lines (homeowners, DP), and some commercial lines business. Even though I’m licensed to write my own business, the sole producer in the company is my boss. I currently make 35k + 15k in commissions (approximately). Is this a normal salary? Or how much should I be making? Appreciate your help

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?

I've been working at my current job for about a year now and I'm finally beginning to understand how the company works.

It's not easy, though. It's a small company, which means there are only a few of us in each department. There is no dedicated training team, so we all have to learn new things on the fly through trial-and-error or by asking our coworkers for help. The management team seems to be pretty hands off when it comes to project management and project direction, so it's up to us engineers to figure out how we want to spend our time and who we want to work with.

I've been working as a Junior Analog Design Engineer for a year and half.

Should I wait and build up a few more years of experience before accepting a Senior role or should I jump in and work to fill the gap?
