Do you write thank you email after an interview?

Never heard of anyone sending hand written thank you cards after interviews. I bet GS1 is a hardo chick that takes detailed notes in mandatory compliance trainings

likesmart

Lol I’d reject anyone who gave me a handwritten card...

like

Absolutely - was up against equally qualified candidate and I got the job because I sent them. Email immediately and then send on good card stock in the post that day or next (and do NOT use ones that have ‘thank you’ embossed. Cranes boxed from Papyrus or elsewhere are fine). Bring up something from the conversation unique to the recipient to be careful that they’re not identically worded. Huge sigh of relief for that I when I heard that mine were such an anomaly that the recipients compared content. Good luck!

like

Every time. Sending them won’t count against you, but some petty person might be offended if you don’t. Just make sure you check your spelling and grammar about 20 times

like

Having been on both sides of multiple processes, I’m pretty sure sending nice stationary is a negative expected value proposition. I always have an email waiting for me right after the interview asking for a thumbs up or down. Seems like the decision will have already been made by the time your stuff arrives in the mail

likesmart

^ an attitude like that is how you ended up at DB

like

It really doesn’t make a difference. I only send them when I’m unsure how it went - typically a gracious reply has been a good sign ime

like

Every single time, right after the interview

like

It doesnt hurt

like

^ absolutely every time for both email and handwritten

like

I think you just get a kick out of going the extra 10 miles and are struggling to dress this up as the most rational approach. But it does actually matter whether the decision has or hasn’t been made. And it probably isn’t worth the time and effort to curry goodwill from people that have already rejected you.

like

^haha Asos1... and wrong. Just someone who’s been on both sides of the hiring process. For every person who asks about GPA because they’re sweating not differentiating from all the other candidates, are you really such a hardo about NOT putting pen to paper and putting a stamp on it? Saw a senior M&A banker walk out of his office and question his assistant on a name that kept coming up in his meeting requests, didn’t have a clue who it was. Things got very awkward when she pointed to the Analyst the next cube over who he’d been working with almost every day for close to 2 years (who happened to be watching it go down.) Don’t think anyone’s going to invest in remembering your name unless you give them a reason. It’s a given you’ll produce good work, no one will notice/congratulate you for that. The rest is up to you.

like

Doesn’t really matter to me, having been on both sides as well. A handwritten note would be weird

like

Seriously - turn off. If you are good assume people will have figured out themselves (because they think they can). Don’t send emails (or handwritten notes).

like

Not necessarily and doesn’t make a difference even if the decision is already made. It’s to your advantage to be perceived as having good manners, that sticks with people. If you have to take someone to a client, you waste zero energy worrying if they can handle themselves and don’t embarrass you.

like

Never

like

I don’t know why this is ever a question People hire people. Just be polite and courteous for the time they took out of their work day to interview you. I personally hate interviewing people because it takes a few hours out of my work day. I think being aware of that is important

like

^yup. I have seen once where a friend was mentoring a student over the course of a few weeks and then that student got an internship here - he then sent a card to her to say thanks. Thought that was sweet. Just after a 30min interview is overkill.

like

Maybe - let’s speak in 13 years and see if you are still around

like

GS1 this story was hilarious but also totally non responsive to whether your efforts are worthwhile. I’m basically asking a math question and your talking about why relationships are good. We’re talking past one another

Lucidworks - 33
Boeing - 35(Verbal offer after countered them with lucidworks offer).

Now with freshworks, last round is pending.
Let me know what would be better.

From interview perspective, I enjoyed lucidworks interview as the interviews taken by quality people compared to other two companies. But it is a startup.

Btw, I have been interviewed for 6 rounds in Citrix and waiting to hear from them.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

How often do you think you will be traveling in 2022 with COVID mostly behind us? In the final interview/negotiation stages with an agency focused on pharmaceutical marketing as an Account Manager. Offer states up to 30% travel (but was told 20% is more realistic). No further info given such as location of accounts I'd be working on or a baseline other AMs travel. Feels like a red flag. Not interested in much travel. Quarterly is manageable. Any insights from others in similar roles??

Is it common to offer signing bonuses for product managers? I've only worked in small companies and I'm currently interviewing at a much larger company. I am expecting an offer this week, but the salary isn't quite where I want it to be. A signing bonus of 5 or 10k would make me feel so much better (obviously) but it would put me right where I want to be for salary this year. I'm taking a cut in salary to consider this new job but I like the company and they actually offer benefits
