Does any investor actually care if tables add up on a PowerPoint slide? My MD just blew up 20+ slides saying that the tables didn’t “foot and tie throughout” due to rounding. They don’t want me to show decimals but I’d rather not hardcode anything just to fix a number off by 1.

Is there any way you’d recommend solving this? These numbers are all shown in millions with no decimals.

Just hardcode the final number…

Ha something sounds wrong

Sounds like the answer is already no, but, can you footnote differences from rounding?

This is a ppt slide everything has to be hard coded…

Just put it in excel and alt+h+0 or 9 to get to 0dp and copy them numbers in … ?

I Typically try to keep everything to 2-3 significant figures to avoid this issue. Ask your MD what number of sig figs they want and then go with that throughout.

To answer your question yes investors care if numbers add up on PowerPoint slides. I get your frustration though.

Lol yes it definitely matters and is easily fixed by a footnote. In a 150 page DD I did half a year ago the client literally calculated every table. That’s why you have an offshore team in India doing the same before you send it to the client.

Yes investors care and many of them will go through and check the math
