Does anyone else feel conflicted about working in hospitality when you can barely afford to dine out yourself? I serve $45 entrees all night and then go home to ramen. It’s wild to help create these experiences for others and never get to enjoy them yourself. How do you make peace with that gap?

I don't lol. It kills me a little bit inside every shift. I find myself getting so jealous of our customers. I would love to know what it's like to drop $250 on a tab without having to check my bank account first to make sure my card will actually go through.

Yes and no. From a business standpoint, I get that the 50$ entree isn’t going far, but considering how little most of us make, it’s still hard to see.

I kind of get to try the food at my restaurant so i don’t feel so bad. I know people in the industry so if i visit them, they give me some discounts 😊

So I'm fairly new to the restaurant business; only in like 4 years (only two concepts). Both have been pure chaos that causes so much stress and anxiety. Is this industry wide or am I just unlucky with the 2 concepts I've experienced so far?

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?
