Does anyone else relate to this? Because I swear, the better you are at your job, the more invisible “extra” work just lands in your lap. It’s like being competent is a curse! I feel like I should be making my salary and a half, every month. Has anyone tried to ask for a raise based on the fact that you're pretty much doing three employees' work? How did it go for you, and how did you raise the conversation?

And the cherry on top? When review time comes around, management says, “You’re such a team player!” Team player? More like I am the team!

Yes!! that is the nature of the beast... if you want something done ASK A BUSY PERSON! they will find the time...

It is OKAY to say NO,,. not only is NO a COMPLETE sentence but it works. If you are hesitant about saying no with no you can say "I would love to help out but unfortunately, right now I am working on X,Y and Z" which is my current priority... they will amazingly figure it out.

Good luck, for me, worked in the past but now it didn’t work. some employers don’t value their employees and just have a revolving door, it depends on the company values.

Focus on spending 20% of your time automating tasks.
That way you’ll be able to handle extra work easily and you won’t even feel like you are doing extra.
If you do this well, you will get many promotions and raises (or be able to leave and get massive pay rises)

Yes. And absorbing the labor of organizing, thinking, checking, and fixing other people’s work.

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

I'd appreciate any success stories or pointers you can offer in regards to this transition.

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!
