April 2020. Chances of getting covid - relatively high. Chances of getting serious covid - relatively high.
August 2021. Chances of getting covid - high. Chances of getting serious covid - very low if double vaxxed. That’s the big difference

I didnt say anything about dying. I said catching covid. Even without the vaccines, other places around the world managed to reduce spread. Even China opened up after a few months. Its just that people here dont bother folowing social distancing and mask wearing
I feel like we're in a new phase that in some ways is worse. The public, employers, schools, etc. have reached a point of pandemic exhaustion. Precautions that follow the science are being dismissed or ignored, too many are in a rush to return to normal. While we do have very effective vaccines there is a large segment of the population that can still not benefit from their protection. As a parent of two children under 12 this phase and the transmissability of Delta by vaccinated and unvaccinated alike as well as being significantly more contagious than the original covid and other variants has me anxious at best and bordering on out right scared.
I think there will be less government action and more individual and business decisions - unless things get really bad.
I feel like we’re back at the beginning again. It’s depressing.

Yes. COVID is not going anywhere. It’ll just become part of our normal round of shots every year.
Hopefully what goes away are lockdowns and restrictions.
STA1 - yes there is, for those of us that get a flu shot every year, that is a “normal round” of a shot. In the past 5 years I received a booster shot for whooping cough and tetanus. Obviously not a yearly example, but it is a normal part of some vaccinations. I’m hopeful right now that so far vaccines are protecting me from severe infection and dying from the delta variant, which means it’s working as advertised. But if they say we should get a booster, I have zero issue with that. Science is pretty awesome, I feel very lucky to have its protection.
Based on the way it's being handled, probably. I'm back in the office even though I don't want to be. i wear a mask in most indoor settings, even though others don't. I'm vaccinated by the way.
Ugh wish there was a sad face react for this
Yes it will go from pandemic to endemic.
We may have failed relative to other countries vax rates, but it wouldn't have made a significant difference either way. It's a global problem.
Covid isn’t going away. It was never supposed to be about getting covid to zero …. Was never going to happen.

If things keep its course we may ens up in a situation whwre even vaccines are not enough to keep numbers low.
i mean i’m fully vaxxed and just got over covid. and it was rough. like thank god for being vaccinated but damn

If you don’t mind sharing, what were your symptoms like?
I think its very likely that most everyone does end up getting it at this point and it becomes similar to the question of whether anyone has had the flu at some point in their life (which for most people is yes)- i can only hope that people continue to get vaccinated until then so it really is more like a flu that everyone gets and we can limit deaths.

I know more people vaccinated who’ve gotten sick with covid than I did pre-vaccines, and even when they’ve gotten better, they’re not fully “better”. It’s fucking terrifying. I’m glad that people aren’t dying at the rates they were before before we had vaccines, but I don’t want to live in a world where everyone permanently feels kind of shitty due to a virus we all got because a bunch of redneck assholes were trying to prove a point.
Yes. And I feel good enough about my vaccination that when I do, it will be mild symptoms. Or that at least it won’t kill me. I’ve done everything i can do to protect myself, I can’t live with fear over a virus forever.
Unless it is strep throat and in that case I will need you to step TF back because strep throat is the worst.
