Easier to go to another firm tbh. A lot of hoops you have to jump through to get an internal transfer
Had same issue, M&A was ready for me to join for a rotation and all I needed was audit approval. Several dodged emails and non-responses ultimately resulting in them telling me no.
Next year at the firm, starting recruiting externally for FDD/M&A and told a couple partners/MDs i spend significant time working with. Immediately set me up to talk to some people internally and starting making moves happen.
Don’t feel awkward or uncomfortable reaching out to partners you work for that can attest to your work ethic and recommend you. If they know you’re going to leave the firm, they will help try to retain you.
I told them I was leaving the firm and was able to then interview with FDD without audit restrictions. The audit PPMDs were more helpful with the transfer as they already knew I was gone, might as well retain within the Company. There was more to it that allowed this maneuver, but hope this helps you. If internal doesn’t work for you, I would try external right now. A lot of demand for FDD atm.

Currently tryna transfer internally but it’s so hard. Firm says I need to come back and do a busy season in audit before I can transfer to FDD. So started looking elsewhere outside the firm.
Feel like career coaches usually can’t do much. Best bet is if you have a partner you work with a lot that likes you. Talk to them and they’ll help you.
