That’s a gray area, because of course I’d love to feel accepted at church (I am bisexual) but that is technically a sin. You don’t want a church that is too liberal which then goes into accepting sin, but you don’t want a church that is demeaning.
Well said.
As a Christian, you either follow God's teaching or you don't (and if you dont, why call yourself a Christian?). Culture, progressive or otherwise, has nothing to do with it.
Can you explain what you mean by blending faith with progressive culture?
There is no blending faith with “progressive culture”. Please see the first commandment.
You want a church that teaches the Bible, nothing more (e.g., unnecessary tradition) and nothing less (e.g., tries mold biblical theology to fit current cultural trends).
I would say as a Christian we should be cautious of trying to blend in with any culture of this world.
Define progressive culture?
I wouldn’t call it ‘blending with progressive culture’, you are looking for a church that is non judgmental, which is how all churches are supposed to be in the first place. The Bible says that repeatedly. Unfortunately the church is made of imperfect men and women, you will never find the perfect church. I would suggest, with love, you read the Bible and focus on Christ, instead of the church. I am personally touched that you are eager to go to church even though there is a high probability that you will be judged. I will be praying for you.
I didn’t mean to say, ‘ Don’t go to church’ , I meant, ‘the church doesn’t have to be perfect’.
When I got divorced, I was very uncomfortable going to church for a long time because of the judgmental behavior of some ‘christians’, but kept going only because I wanted my son to grow up going to church.
Over time I made new friends, we still hold each other accountable but we are more empathetic to each other’s situation, because no one knows the details why some people are forced into life choices that may not be the norm for ‘church going people’.
It’s sad that this empathy is lacking in the church as a whole, but again, the church is made of imperfect people. I don’t go to church to be like other church goers, but to be like Christ and to be led by Him alone.
