I would take a 4 day work week over a promotion!!
I negotiated it when I came back from mat leave years ago and it’s been grandfathered in. I handle some of our toughest clients who don’t know I’m only in 4 days so if I can do that, why can’t I take a more senior role. I’m open to reasons why it won’t work but just curious if anyone’s in my boat!
My boss got promoted to department head at 3 days/week because she was that good.
Hah to the people saying they would “take” a four day week - women use this day to do the WORK of child-rearing. It is a job. Someone has to do this job. And if you don’t want to spend your life working Monday to Friday and then your weekends working on behalf of your children (washing, cleaning, cutting toenails, making lunches, changing diapers, cooking, emptying dishwashers), then this is a sensible, practical practice that is used the world over. Early on in my career I was corrected for calling it a “day off” and I’d encourage you to make the same mental switch.
I think it's worth a negotiation. Especially if you are handling high value clients.

Figure out WHY they would hold you back bc of 4 days (is there something every Friday that u need to be in for, is your travel restricted, etc) then figure out a way to address that and come to them with the solution
OP what percentage pay cut did you have to take at 4 days? Abs are you getting paid less but still checking emails etc?

SR1- I get paid 80% and most days I check emails (don’t answer all but recognize that this isn’t a 4 day business and I don’t want to slow things down) and maybe do one 15 min call here and there but I see it as the price to pay to be able to a) drop my kids off, volunteer at school, get my shit together and b) say I don’t HAVE to work because you don’t pay me. I’d say I change my schedule twice / year to accommodate work stuff but generally don’t.
Pretty sure it’s a 5 day work week, but I agree 4 day work week over promotion
I do but they had that job and then went down to 4 days.
