Does your company ask you to pay to participate in office potlucks? Do they ask you to give a "required donation" to participate in outside-of-office "club" corporate events?
Mine does and I am curious how common this is. I am also curious if you agree with the sentiment

I use to work for a call center. And we did them all the time. For holidays or any celebrations. We even brought in snacks to share if we were going through some hard weeks. I enjoyed these days. I had a dish that everyone loved and agreed to bring that dish every time. Some of the others also had one dish that become a continuous thing. And for the ones who don’t cooked brought in store brought desserts, chips, drinks, or plates/cups. I was appreciative of it all, as I love food, especially through work stress.

Sorry I miss the “pay” part of the question. No we never paid, unless we were chipping in to order pizza. And you were never required or bullied to participate.

like

My old company everything had to be voluntary and you could not pressure anyone to bring in food, if they did not they could still participate by eating the food.

New company I am remote so not sure.

like

No. I have honestly never heard of that. The company I work for usually gives a set amount of money for people to buy the stuff, or it is at least up to you if you want to participate. But you definitely aren't required to pay.

like

Wife's company does this. They collect a fee if you are coming to the event and the event is catered.

Our company does offer potlucks but they are voluntary and whether you participate or not has no bearing on your job performance or security.
