I mean, the best account managers I’ve ever worked with are women, but I can say the same thing about project managers, producers and strategists as well. It’s because women know how to work with other people. Men make things a ego competition. I’ll take women in roles of leadership anywhere I can get them. I mean, can we just phase the men out? They’re kinda obsolete at this point.
Worst part is men like that think that’s a compliment about our account management skills.
Women can make a better anything and everything!
FOH!
#ThereGoesThatIgnoranceAgain
Wow.
That’s like me saying men are better when they don’t talk. At least that one is.
@ creative director 1 if I’m being honest I just sat silent because I wasn’t sure how to respond and I haven’t been in that situation before. But I did bring it up with the recruiter afterwards because I think it’s important that people are made aware of how their comments make others feel.
Yes, and why do women make better account managers? Because we're socially conditioned to take on emotional labor, which is a lot of what account management entails.
Such bullshit, OP. I'm glad you spoke up to the recruiter.
^you must be the same freelance former RGA trolling other posts too. That’s so unbelievably sexist (not every woman wants children? Some women adopt?), irrelevant (CW1 was clearly talking professionally, and clearly being trite the same way the sexist CD in question was), and also uninformed (there’s lotssssss of clinical trials proving we actually DON’T need men to create life)
@strategy director 1 I think he was intending on the former but we were discussing why the creative industry lacks women and if that’s his reasoning I don’t think he understands systemic sexism
It’s totally weird to see people respond to sexism with even more sexism. By both men and women. The comments here are kind of ridiculous.
Ugh nooooo
🙄🙄🙄
@OP of course you just sat there and said nothing. It was an interview. Not your place to school the douche. Curious if you are a woman or a man. Guessing you're a man and that's why he thought it was okay to say that to you. @GSD1 I'm stealing your line. It's great.
Either way it’s bad, but was it “women make better account managers than men do” or “women make better account managers than creatives"
@copywriter 3 I’m a woman so I felt really awkward and I think he could tell it was an odd thing to say.
Based on that statement alone one could almost say men make better idiots. But what an unfounded assertion that would be, right?
@CW1 go make a baby all by yourself, then get back to us on that.
Men are the worst.
How did you handle that comment?
The sad truth is if the clients are straight men and the account leads are attractive women, the clients will usually be more amenable. Of course it's not how things should be, but I've seen it happen way too many times to rule it out as a pattern.
Because all women have the same skills and personalities, right?
