Might be intentional - I’ve seen it happen where the group is trying to get the person to quit 😬
He’s a low performer and if he quits you don’t need to provide a severance package.
Sounds like he wants severance
EY3, yes there is a severance. At least at PwC there is. It increases depending upon length of service. If you’re fired after a few years you’re going to get something.
Or she just knows the right people...
The rest of us to have to pick up hid slack and work more than we should have to with a group than in a group where everyone is holding their weight.
why isn't he working more? on my team people have been underutilized (including myself once) because managers and above gave all the work to their favorites and didn't give others work even though we asked. if there is enough work to go around how does he avoid it?
Yes, I have. He had an excuse whenever people would try to give him work. But took almost a year for him to get fired. His utilization was 10% when he eventually got fired.
Wowwww. I'm just trying to imagine telling a manager "sorry I can't work I have to study for the CPA right now"
Is this person a new experienced hire? < 1 yr at the firm? If so, this would make sense
Nope. He’s an xperienced senior.
Are you sure he’s not on an FWA or another arrangement with the firm? How do you know what his utilization is anyway?
My group sends out weekly util emails so we always know who’s at what util. Maybe op has same?
One of our new managers was constantly the lowest utilized senior and lowest for timesheet compliance. She must have done good work though to still get promoted.
I have got someone in my group whose utilization goes from 150% for one 2-week period, then 35% for another, then spike back up to 100%. It’s continued like this for 2 months ... but the person’s overall utilization FYTD is still 32%. Very mysterious IMO.
Oh yeah we had a staff do this. They thought they “gamed the system”. Nope just got fired a few months later.
If they are way below where they should be and not new or some other specific reason, there is an issue. Low chargeability is a symptom of other problems too because if you’re good, you’re busy. It always takes a while, but yes, this person is at risk of being PIP’d and then fired if no improvement
