Can anyone speak to this? Looking for a solid adjustable bench that also declines, preferably. Can up my budget if needed and would also consider something in this price range that doesn't decline if it has fantastic reviews

Hey OP, can you share some advice? I am in the same boat you were in; stuck in a technically oriented consulting role I had no interest in. I am currently interviewing for Google’s S&O APMM program in Mountain View I am treating this like a case interview.
Hey OP
Mind if we could connect? Motivated by your story
Thx
This has to be one of the best threads I’ve ever seen in FB- OP thanks for your candid honesty.
I’m at D consulting, stuck in a tech group and also looking into the APMM program at Google. I tried to DM you but it says unavailable to chat - would love to get your advice ! Have been doing product related roles the past 2 years, but concerned that D is not a competitive enough name to get into Google.....also toured Airbnb a few years ago so curious if you think that’s the best launching pad to Google? Or should I push for more S&O while at D... Thank you!
At D, I came in as an advisory C at $62k -> SC promotion got me up to $77k in Los Angeles. Got pissed, left, and never looked back. Got into a tier 1 tech unicorn at $160k and Google offer this past Friday is $220k.
It’s doable to escape the career pit that is Risk Advisory aka fake consulting aka bean counting auditing. Test the market and give it your best shot. Best of luck to you all
Hi OP, would also love to pick your brain as well but can’t DM you. I did something kinda similar but not really (UG > federal government > ACN) in 1 year and I’m itching to pivot to a FAANG or equivalent but I’m not sure if I can pull off another impossible move. Would appreciate your insights!
Love this post. I really respect the go-getter mentality and striving for what you want no matter what the situation. Huge congrats OP and thanks for the inspiration!!
OP...idk if an MBA is really worth it at this point in your career unless you want to switch industries. Google s&o is a role most MBAs want and the cost benefit trade-off isn't there.
(I have an M7 MBA)
OP you rock. Nice of you to post here and boost morale. Agree with you that the consulting space thrives on your insecurity. Good luck!
Thank you! Google recruiter approached me via LinkedIn. Previous attempts to apply to Google throughout the years got absolutely no reply.
Dude, this is an awesome jump and I really liked the way you have described your transition. I feel like I am stuck in risk advisory consulting doing BS and not gaining any skills. Haven’t been lucky to even get an interview with any of the firms
Don’t feel that way, there’s definitely a market out there for our skills given the right strategy. Feel free to DM me and I’m happy to jump on a call to discuss further/answer any of your questions.
Slalom, Google's S&O is just ad business, not tech. In fact 90% of google jobs are ads now...I really liked google but disappointed after my interview with GBS.
+1 to what C1 said. BizOps or Marketing S&O is more representative!
So refreshing to see this post, OP! Congratulations 👏🏻 and very nice of you to share details/answer questions. Good luck!
Thank you!
Congrats OP and welcome to Google! Left S&O for Product strategy here are Google and much happier. If you're in the Bay area let's connect! The Deloitte network here is also great.
OP,
Tried to DM you, but the function was disabled. I’m joining BizOps soon and moving to the west cost soon. DM if you’d like to meet up when we’re both officially onboard.
Congrats!
Care to share how got the first PM gig? Interview process and all? How is different from consulting?
Yeah, very happy to share. So as Deloitte Advisory and not S&O, I could basically only qualify for PM (Project Manager) positions but not the strategy roles. I realized it had to be a two step process: break into tech industry first, then break into the strategy role next.
For the first PM gig, I found that if consulting preps us for anything, it’s herding cats and pushing deliverables out the door regardless of the subject matter. Marketed myself as an expert project manager and problem solver in one, interview was behavioral and PM oriented, asked about managing competing priorities and personalities (this is our strength as consultants), conflict resolution, delivery, etc.
Job-wise, it was way more people oriented than Risk Advisory AKA spreadsheet audit hell which was fine for me as I networked my ass off internally and got promoted until Google came knocking in November and months later just got my offer letter (G is slow AF)
Nice work OP. Does G have any S&O work in Atlanta, or is it all tech side over here? Been looking to make the move for a while?
Dang. Thank you. I Just moved to Atlanta. I’ve done industry once before. I’m ready to get outta this rat race, even though I know I’m just entering another one
Congrats and thanks for sharing! Love hearing stories about people leaving risk advisory, aka audit hell.
Thank you!
OP what location is this ? Wondering if these opps are only available in the Bay Area ? Currently in Austin and there is a huge tech explosion here but not as robust as the west coast
Mountain View, Google HQ. I’d check the Google careers page to be sure but from what I understand the Austin area is heavy in operations and talent positions due to the low COL.
Congratulations that’s a Awesome! I’m in the same exact boat right now. Anyway you could message me so I can ask a couple of quick questions?
Hi OP, I hope you're doing great at google. I was just contacted about an S&O role. I am also in consulting so I would like to learn from you as I prep for this. I am unable to DM you. Can we chat?
Congrats and I’m happy for you. But why are you hating on Deloitte? They put you through exactly what you signed up for
Ditto what OP says here. I’m ex-Deloitte S&O Consulting, and they always made it sound like we were at the best consulting firm in the world (we weren’t - please see MBB), and that the pay was market competitive (it wasn’t - always well below what competitors offered, both MBB, other Big 4, etc.)
