P&T moving to cohort. Thoughts …
Tata Consultancy I am a manager in Capgemini... have an offer frm TCS. the designation being offered is Assistant Consultant.. 9.8 years experience( 5 yrs with Cap) Even though I am getting a package of 25Lakhs.. it seems like a demotion in designation.. Cg has offered to match upto 23.5 lakhs.. Is it worth moving to TCS on this grade? My primary reason for moving out of Cg is i m bored of beauocracy and WLB at current project. Is it a good idea to still switch with the counter offer from Cg Capgemini Tata Consu

Congratulations! A lot of larger companies have these opportunities for leadership programs.
I’m assuming you do not have any professional experience beyond jobs in high school and college. I apologize if I have that wrong.
I would temper your expectations. I’m sitting on an MBA with 13 years of experience, and I’m not in a leadership/management role. That’s even with my superiors and my peers screaming that I should be in one. I just haven’t been granted the opportunity. From personal experience, the hardest thing that’s holding me back is supervisory experience. If you can obtain that even in a low paying job, it would probably be worth it longterm if leadership is your goal.
Your biggest immediate barrier may very well be getting hired. You need to get your foot in the door anywhere. After a 2-3 years you can start job hopping to increase your salary. If you find that distasteful, I’m sorry. I have learned a bit too late, that surviving and increasing your quality of life should take precedence. Staying some place for 5,7,10 years to get extra PTO is not worth it to me, if I cannot afford to actually get away. I also learned that some places completely sapped my work ethic, because I was penned up there for so long under compensated for my work. I’m not going to do 80k work having been stuck at a 65k salary for so long that I had actually fallen well beneath the pay scale for the position I had. Now I find myself having to break those habits, when I would have been far better off breaking those ties. Don’t be afraid to log off and disconnect from work. You will figure out when there are people or things you want to push forward and drive towards a major success or line on your resume. It’s not worth burning yourself like I have trying to hit every metric. Newsflash, your yearly performance review will probably be between a 2.5-3.5. I earned one 5 in my life. It was 100% not worth it in the end.
I have found that as life moves forward my pain point of needing to be fairly compensated, and to take care of my family has overridden my hopes and dreams for my career. It’s something I am still coming to peace with. I haven’t given up, but I’m in the process of attempting to make a lateral move, just because I might be able to obtain the supervisory experience in this new role.
Do not neglect opportunities that work with people within your organization on charity or volunteer work. I had the privilege of being integrated with projects I got to truly lead and be passionately involved in. I made great connections and worked on my public speaking as well.
I would also encourage you to find someone that can truly mentor and help you navigate your career.
Look for opportunities that won’t just set you apart from your current colleagues, but from everyone else. That will help keep you at the top lists of candidates when applying in the future.
These are just some of my learnings I want to share with the generation entering the workforce.
I wfh too and have turned down positions at the same rate because they were in the office and commute time , cost of gas , lunches, bridge tolls and parking all add up and so I said no to them.
