High deduct way better for healthy young people assuming u fund hsa. Annoying 48 dollars annual fee is bad but triple tax advantage makes up for it
OP, I’ve had years <$100 and years around $400... but overall it’s always made more sense for me to stick with the hdhp and hsa. Lucky to be healthy and for preventive to be covered 100%.
I’m 23 and selected the high deductible/“young and healthy” medical plan. After NEVER going to the hospital my entire life, 5 months later I get appendicitis and have to have emergency surgery. My out of pocket cost was......wait for it........ $8,000. Bad luck Chuck
The benefits site (not Alex) has a good tool for figuring out the best choice for you based on how many appointments etc you anticipate. I’ve been on HDHPs for 4 years and love them.
Thanks EY1. How much is your expenses on an average per year.. close to nil?
Yes it sucks but thats the price of the ridic government compliance standards
So, I have gone to urgent care with this insurance and pay $25 for cold and flu treatment. Also, I got a z pack etc. it's not a bad plan if you are healthy and young without medications. I'm contributing to my HSA which can also serve as a tax free retirement vehicle. You get free annual check ups I believe. I paid a $75 co-pay for specialists for ear nose and theorist and paid like another $75 for actual sinus treatment. Overall, not breaking the bank and I like it!
Ibm1 .. sorry to hear that. What were the options in this plan? Did your employer contribute anything to the HSA? 8k deductible seems to be real high.
Is that 48 dollar hsa account maintenance fee?
Thanks EY2
For the preventive care ... do you pay the copay or its completely free?
Employer contributes $800, but I was unaware of HSA and what it could do for me. Unfortunate, but I’ll def be contributing this coming year
