Just like any PTO it has to be cleared with project leadership especially if over two weeks I believe. It’s actually been proven that firms with unlimited PTO have employees taking the least amount of PTO.

Idt that’s right EY1
"Unlimited" PTO reeks. That's all I have to say on this matter before I go off on a long winded rant about how I'm ridden with guilt when I take any time off or how I can't cash out on a PTO bank when I leave the company.
Oops
Pro
LEK1 discretionary or unlimited PTO is a cost cutting measure for exactly this reason. You can't pay out accrued PTO if your employees don't accrue PTO.
First of all the policy is “flexible” pto not unlimited…
Expect to take 3 maybe 4 weeks of pto outside of company holidays as long as you are properly utilized and inline with peers. Otherwise expect to take less.
Which means: if the company can’t sell enough work that meets your skillset and refuses to train you then you’re not taking time off. Note: when on the bench you must be instantly reachable at all times.
Its all about liability. When people leave, they cash out the accrued PTO which at times can go upto 3 months of salary.
With unlimited PTO, you dont accrue anything, so no payout when you leave. And people are scared to take longer PTO’s in fear of being let go.
It’s not unlimited it gives the employer power to approve And you’re at their Mercy. You won’t be able to take much time if any away as if you’re working at a firm with 4 or 5 weeks.
It also is a way for them not to have to pay you out when you leave for it. If you think
It’s good for the employee, you couldn’t be more mistaken.
I agree with the cons of unlimited PTO that everyone has mentioned.
Here the pro (albeit a small one): I take more 1/2 days off as compared to previous times. I don't have to worry about the count of vacation days left.

Expect to take 4 weeks and then we also get like (literally) 4 weeks of holidays. Don’t get anything paid out when you leave though
The catch is you never actually get to take it
