My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India
Mood for the week.

Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?
Does anyone know what these black dots are?

And I’ve been trusted to draft the very complex agreements they’d specifically said months ago they’d never let me do because they didn’t trust that I had the attention to detail to do. I’ve looked at the markups of my work that go out versus what I send the bosses. The simple mistakes are gone, and most changes are stylistic. They now have me supervising and training people and choosing my own teams to do work.
But my annual review this year my direct supervisor said I fail to perform at my level, have timeliness issues, and make a lot of simple mistakes. My other reviewer who is the head of our department spoke up and said that wasn’t the case as I do a lot of work with them and that it’s “solid” good level work that’s actually more senior level and saves them a lot of time and that I’m running teams now. The department head said my work is timely and they don’t have those issues with me and gave specific examples of recent projects by name and how I handled them.
Guys idk what to do. I’ve put in soooo much work to become someone I’m not and overcome my ADHD issues for the past year and I’m still getting slammed for things I’ve done in the past. For issues I’ve already worked through by staying up late, creating crazy organization systems to stay on track, etc.
My direct supervisor then said perhaps the perception of me from the past is so embedded that I’m going to continue to receive that feedback on my reviews whether it’s true or not and that it’s hard to change the narrative and perception once you’ve developed a reputation.
Either way the response was no bonus or raise.
I assume it’s time to leave?
SA1 I’m seeing that. I got recruited away from my stable small firm job during the tail end of that post-COVID transactional boom. They recruited me heavily, and with the money they were throwing around and how much they seemed they wanted me/the resources they promised they had my small firm didn’t have, I moved away and took the job. I’ve seen how little they care about people who are far more competent than me who’d been at the firm longer or had been recruited from higher ranked firms that pay more than my current firm does. I’ve been interviewing since summer, but I was holding out for the right job. Now I’ll just take *a* job at this point. The market hasn’t been good. You’re right that I need to get out ASAP as if I wait another year or two I may be too senior
Yep, time to leave. Sorry OP, just know that it is a failure of the system (as evidenced by the other partners going to bat for you and it meaning diddly), not you.
At least you’re finding out early. I got passed up for partnership because they held a mistake against me that I made as a third year (after lateraling to a new practice group in year 2).
Thank you AGC1. I know you’re right. I just don’t know how long I have left, and that’s what’s scary. Is it weeks? Months? Until mid-year review? I need to get out now
I think it's definitely time to move on. They basically told you as much when they said that you're earlier mistakes had left such an impression that you haven't been able to rid yourself of that impression. If you get a fresh start somewhere, you can have a clean slate and not have to waste time impressing people who clearly aren't open minded to your improvements
Thanks A2! I’ll try my hardest to find somewhere else to land, but I don’t know how much time I have. That’s the scariest part of this whole experience.
To me, it sounds like they’re fishing for reasons to not promote you. They may be trying to pay you less while stringing you along, and they may have been doing this all along. After all, if you’re doing good work now, what’s the problem?
This is all doubly so if you’re woman and/or person of color, because it’s unfortunately common to be paid less and then pushed out by mid-to-senior years.
I would take pride in your skills and accomplishments and find a better job. Even a quick lateral move to another firm as a transition, and then a switch to a more permanent home, could work here.
A3 thank you! I really hope I feel better Saturday morning or even Sunday. I need to pull myself together, apply for jobs, and put together a game plan
