do research on the company and show deep knowledge of recent earnings and strategy
think about it as having a strategy discussion with a c-suite vs an interview. this means, to the best of your ability, you need to have ingoing hypotheses about where the company is going and why and what’s on the CEO’s mind. this will make for an informed and productive discussion and put you a step ahead hopefully.
- someone who got a recent corp strat offer
I went through this interview with a SaaS company a couple months ago.
Know their business model and if it's changing. I was asked what I knew about their business, how the industry was changing, what products of theirs can switch from subscription to transactional.
I looked up interviews of the CEO and used their own words. Use Gen AI to know their position, competition, where they are going, etc. Overall treat this as a strategy and brainstorming session as another person noted.
Ask them to make up an alternative definition for the acronym CEO.
Use GenAI man. Like seriously, if you are unoriginal and have clue about the role you are interviewing for even after somehow reaching final round , you have all the resources in the world copy “great Qs”.
I had the same question when I interviewed with a startup a few months ago because I wasn't sure what to expect. Know the startup's value proposition, competitive landscape, and pain points, and position yourself and your experience to address them.
Also find the right balance between being personable and professional. They want to know what person they'll be spending a lot of time with, but they also may try to be very personable and get you to lower your guard. I accidentally lowered my guard too much and was a bit too casual in my response to a few questions.
LinkedIn posts by founders who hire give pretty good insight into what they're looking for if you can find them.
