I do! I like being so close to the beach and the airport is a breeze to get through Monday mornings.
I live in Citrus Park which is super close to the airport on the Tampa side, but if I had the choice again, I would live in St. Pete close to beach.
In the same boat - went to visit St. Pete with SO back in Feb and loved it. Hoping to make it happen this year
I lived in South Tampa from 2016-2019, before moving back to the Midwest. I really liked it, but moved away for my wife’s work.
Tampa is wonderful especially St. Petersburg. People are so nice and very neighborly. Tampa airport is one of the best in the country as a consultant, in and out in 15 minutes. Plus they are doing renovations. The best part of flying home late in the evening and doing circles over the lit up bridges. So beautiful. We no longer live there, but loved it when we did.
Sounds awesome, thanks for your thoughts.
Lived in Tampa/St. Pete for about 10 years while working on MacDill Air Force bade. Great area, close access to beaches, and the food and bar scene is surprisingly awesome.
Like others have said, the Gandy bridge gets pretty packed during rush hour (mostly St Pete going to into Tampa) but compared to DC traffic it’s cake walk.
In terms of living I’d personally stick to South Tampa or near downtown St. Pete. Most people with families move out to Riverview or Brandon, but it’s suburban hell IMO. I wouldn’t say there were any particular shady areas to avoid, but the general rule, at least for St. Pete is the closer inland you get the crappier it gets.
Another potential area is Channelside. The city of Tampa has been building it up over the years and it’s where the lightning play, if you’re into hockey.
Great intel, thank you!
Tampa is great. I lived on Harbor Island and liked that, Davis Island and Hyde Park are great too.
Downtown Tampa is a ghost town on weekends.
Don’t worry about traffic. Sure, there is some around the airport, and the Howard Frankland if you’re coming from St Pete to Tampa can be really bad, but it’s an order of magnitude less than DC.
