I'm assuming it's a single-family home. If so Duke Energy‘s website has a transfer service link. Charlotte Water is here: https://mycitizenservices.org/#/login
Piedmont Natural Gas is the gas company
Spectrum & AT&T are the two major internet providers. Google Fiber is also available in some areas.
Congratulations on your new home!
Trash generally is included in your HOA or provided by the city. See when your neighbors put out their trash each week.
Just contact the utilities to set up an account and a transfer date. As far as internet it’s going to depend on what’s available in your specific area. Spectrum is cheap to begin with but goes up drastically after a year and isn’t super reliable. AT&T Fiber has been wonderful for us and the rate is guaranteed and doesn’t change.
AT&T Fiber has been growing drastically in Charlotte and has a lot of great reviews. I have Spectrum in my home and I work from home, It's been very reliable. The previous comment nailed it, in that it can change based on your area. If you're on City Water & Sewer, you can visit their website to initiate the majority of their services. You can try calling the infamous 311 but it's a hit or miss sometimes. Charlotte water does have an office you can visit if need be. If you're in one of the towns, things can be different as not all the towns are on city water.
My neighborhood has google fiber. Super reliable compared to spectrum. But I imagine it varies by area.
Rising Star
My area doesnt have it
Transferring utilities can be an intimidating process as a first time homeowner, but it doesn't have to be. Start by calling the utility companies and let them know you are a new homeowner and would like to transfer the services over. Ask them what documents you need to provide to make the transfer easier. For internet, a cost effective option in Charlotte is AT&T. Their internet plans are competitively priced and their customer service is reliable.
Pick up your phone, and start dialing
I said,
To transfer the utilities and trash, call the company and give them the new address and I have AT&T and have had it for a while I can't really compare it to any other internet providers
Log into your electric/water/gas acct, request a transfer of service to another property, set your start date at the new property, and set your end date at your current property. I like to have them overlap in case anything comes up or in case I get lazy and take longer to move out/in.
