As a first year manager I’ve noticed I still basically senior half my engagements. Slowly building staff up on jobs. Becoming manager doesn’t change your role overnight but I definitely deal with more admin items and staff conflicts throughout the day that has resulted in finishing my work at night.
Yes, but because I had a private client with quarters and lot of work. I was able to start to work from home and control my time BUT I also noted I was working more nights that before because during the day i was dealing with admin, meetings, the eng team, client, etc.
Becomes more stressful with all the responsibility you assume.
First year manager is rough because you are most likely still senioring engagements but also managing engagements. This is not ideal because managers work on all of their clients on a continuous basis which is hard to do when you’re still senioring engagements. After the first year it gets much much better.
It was so much lighter in terms of workload than my last senior year and I had a lot more control. But I had to learn to say no to unnecessary meetings and I hate having to deal with politics/constantly negotiating for people on my jobs.
