Fishies, I need your help. I received an offer for $160k from guidehouse. I’m currently paid $133k at EY. I don’t particularly love my practice as it is testing and the new practice with guidehouse would be IT strategy. EY has gotten me comfortable with the reimbursement for fitness, phone and internet and the promises from Kelly Grier of “really good bonuses and raises” this year. What would you do?

I can’t tell you what is best for you but I can tell you that my SO left Guidehouse as he has never been so unhappy with a company before. The benefits were very below average and he was saying many people hired at significantly higher than market value, but also expected to perform well above their abilities. The current staff is being paid at market and find resentment with the new hires coming in. The workforce there is full of very talented people and kind people but I think that their business model has a lot to be desired. Either way good luck

This is helpful. Thanks for sharing. How long did your SO stay at guidehouse before leaving? Where did he exit to?

Benefits are on the slim side because we are PE-owned and they want cash liquidity. On the plus side, the comp is good. We are intentionally poaching other Big 4 people to stand up our core competencies. We’re a little rough around the edges but the opportunity to get in early is good, I feel. And IT Strategy and tech consulting in general is a big play. I agree that you prob won’t see as much pay rise once you’re in - until you’re promoted. AD is 160-190 I think, D is 210 upwards in T1 city.

@guidehouse2 - are you part of it strategy? How are you liking the work?

Still hard to wrap my head around paying someone 160k as they address folks as fishies.

"I don't particularly love my practice ". You straight up say you aren't enjoying yourself. You got a better financial offer elsewhere. Why would you stay?

I'm not sure why this is a consideration here. The raises and bonuses aren't going to make up for 27K difference in base salary. I imagine Guidehouse will also have benefits too, even though they may not be quite up to the same standard as EY. Of course, that also depends on what benefits are you actually using, because otherwise it doesn't matter. Example: amazing maternity leave benefit doesn't help you if you're not having kids anytime soon.

If you leave every year, that might be an issue, but otherwise, I think it's fairly normal for the industry. Plus the need is so high in general now, they'll overlook it

What group are you in at EY? What group are you joining at Guidehiude? When is your next promo at EY and expected salary increase? How is WLB now and are you moving from MCOl to HCOL etc.. ?

Do fish love land. Are lions vegetarian. Do birds swim. No so why would OP like testing dummy!!

One of the reasons the pay is so high is because we desperately need people. Depending on what level you come in at, you likely won’t see much increase year to year starting out so high. Also, while our strategy teams try to do strategy, there is also a decent amount of A-123 and technologu testing, etc. and no way to know if they might move you to one of those roles.

My experience on raises at Guidehouse is much more than inflation and reflected my strong performance ratings. It was never 1% like some are saying. Bonuses for MCs is strong.

DM me if you want a detailed conversation. I think I have an idea of the position you are being recruited for. And from what I've heard and seen, your experience at GH varies by practice and leadership. So I'd take these blanket statements with a grain of salt.

I posted in the Healthcare bowl but didn’t get quality responses. PE is notorious for being difficult to break into unless you’re IB. However, there are success stories of consultants making it. Healthcare consulting is lucrative because it requires a very niche knowledge base that is honestly rather difficult to acquire. I’m wondering if that niche knowledge base would make it easier to exit to a healthcare-focused PE firm. Thoughts? Also, general tips for moving to PE would be helpful!

Hear me out. We’re living in the residual days of advertising power. Back in the day, if you worked in advertising, you very much shaped culture. Advertising creatives shared the airwaves with only the likes of Hollywood and national news. There were only so many pipes into culture and advertising was a big one. But today, the pipes are democratized. Random teens on TikTok are having more impact on culture than Mad Ave. And yet, so much ego and self importance remains.

Is your organization planning to require employees be vaccinated? I understand why management wants this but concerned about losing good employees because they don’t believe in vaccination or are wanting to wait until more people have been vaccinated to see if there are issues with it. I’m also concerned with moral if we require this. Employees may get it to keep there job but hold on to some bitterness or develop anxiety over it. Am I being too soft or over analyzing?
