So I have been seeing a guy for 4 months. We have a pay disparity.. he earns less than I do (by quite a bit). I think we are beginning to move past this, but now he’s starting to mention things like ‘I am really broke this month’, and last weekend he told me his mum has lost her job and he’ll have to probably pay her rent. I hate tax and I’m a senior 2, what can I do to get out?

Employment-at-will. Is that the norm in a consulting contract (I’m moving from Europe)? Can I / should I negotiate the notice period on their side or eventually the size of an eventual lay-off?

If my boss asks me for a straight forward task, I complete that task and always try to go above and beyond by adding in additional analysis, etc. it usually takes me an extra hour.

What book have you read that was helpful for your career and/or that you would recommend? Could be a technical book, management, etc. For me, it’s a book I read a few years ago: The Phoenix Project. I never thought I would read and like a novel about DevOps but I recommend it to all my managers.

Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks. I was told by the director to not mention it to anyone but I figured if anyone knew I got one it’d be my boss. I feel super uncomfortable now because do I essentially lie to my boss because I’m not supposed to talk about it.
