I just went to Atlanta for a textile trade show called TechTextil which was great for reviewing technology for textile and manufacturing for apparel. It was held Atlanta's new GWCC which is as big as the Jacob Javits Center. Domestic and overseas companies reviewed updated technology which will be a jump into Industry 4.0 for the fashion industry

Don’t waste your time OP, you’ll get skills from anywhere; my advice would be to focus on maintaining those relationship for your networking purpose!
No, not a thank you note. Just keep in touch periodically
and now I see that I can use those learnings in my current firm - be it closing a project deal or be with dealing with client management or be it others. Wondering if I should send a thank you note to them.. Suggestions welcome. Mind you they are the ones who fired me in first place and who laid me off due to some reason unknown to me. I am still grappling to come to terms but still this thought crossed my mind.
I would send a note. Tell them you learned a lot from them and really appreciate it, it was initially a rough patch but now you are doing well. Maybe they had a heavy heart in letting you go but didn’t have the cash flow to support - your note would make them feel a lot better that there are no hard feelings. We can all do small things to make the world better and uplift each other. Do it if you feel it!
exactly I was thinking. I am not sure if they have a heavy heart or not but what I know is my layoff was politicized with not a good mid year CRT in the mix due to a bad manager. I was up for promotion this year so kind of mixed up feelings I am having right now.
There is so much negativity in this world, and especially in high pressure fields such as ours. When you find some positivity in the middle of that, you should share it freely, without worrying about the “end goal” or the impact.
Hmmmm.....was it just you who was laid off or was it a bunch of people
hm.. didn’t think about that
Why do you bother? Ultimately it is you who learned, so I don’t see a point. It can come across as cheesy especially if they don’t give a damn abt you.
Seems to me that you are still not over your lay-off and that’s the reason you want to send this note, sort of like after reconnecting after a bad breakup. Nothing wrong but seems excessive. Sorry if I sound judgmental
