Heard general consensus is suit supply is good and indochino is bad
Personally I can only go
Custom as it fits my body type and measurements perfectly. Indochino does the job for me, with great customization.
Brooks brothers. Quality is good.
Pro
Idk what happened but the fabric doesn’t feel the same, they definitely are cheaping out on either vendors or material quality
Fit matters more than brand. Make sure the shoulders fit bc that’s hard to fix, tailors can help with the rest. Look at fabric too- nicer fabrics will “drape” better and you generally want 100% wool. And half or full canvas is better than fused lining. From there it just depends how much you want to pay.
1) Suit Supply - honestly, barely ever wear a full suit anymore, but to a wedding. Brooks bros would be a close second for dress shirts and sport coats only.
2) not my top choice, but also comparable to Express.
I have a BB tux and the quality is def superior. I just have never had a need for an actual suit there.
I just got a tom James and honestly pissed with the fit after paying 1800
Suitsupply. Indochino is trash 🗑️
One more vote for suit supply
Sid Mashburn, they have shop in New York. You can get off the rack there for about $1000 and they’ll tailor to fit.
+1 for Sid. Amazing in-store experience too, knowledgeable but chill. The summer and winter sales are good opportunities if you can find your size.
For the athleisure - sene is great. For a suit for life, find something full canvas lined with shoulders that fit (most expensive part to tailor). Lots of brands are in this tier - Canali, Zegna, etc., but you pay for what you get (so also second traveling to a few Nordstrom Racks or targeting 2nd hand if you need to save $).
Indochino is a great place to buy good quality at low prices IF you already know how a suit should fit (or have a friend that does).
I've gotten a few suits from there and everytime the store associate helping me with my measurements wasn't as knowledgeable as me...but he sure was more confident.
I had to push back on their "reccomendations" and had to go for altering through them multiple times (which they obvi don't like b/c it's a cost to them) but I am very picky.
TLDR: Go indochino if you know how a suit should fit.
Canali for work and Tom Ford for night events
Tiger of Sweden … to avoid mainstream suit supply, boss, etc
Got a great custom Suit Supply suit for about a grand, very happy with it
Check out sene, or state and liberty if you have a more athletic build. I have suits from both, very Lululemon feeling material and awesome to travel in
Would stay away from indochino or suit supply, very sub-par for the money
I primarily wear Oxxford and Belvest, though both brands are $$$$ at MSRP. Oxxford is the absolute peak of RTW menswear, though, and has more handwork and better fabrics than you’ll find anywhere else. I also have a couple from d’Avenza that I like quite a bit, though a Roman cut isn’t for everyone.
For bargain options, I really like Spier and Mackay and find them to have more interesting fabrics than Suitsupply: Minnis Fresco, for example.
Indochino is not good. As a rule, you should avoid online MTM as the fabrics and craftsmanship are typically poor.
Sene is the one
Make sure it fits. Most Europeans wear suits 2 sizes to small. /s
I’ve had a good experience with Enzo custom and would recommend
Chief
Personally I think indochino sucks for suits. Their shirts are ok but the suit I got from them was terrible.
Calvin Klein
Joseph Abboud
I’ve always had good experience with properly tailored Abboud off the rack
I use a Hong Kong based tailor that travels 2-3x/year to his clients and does amazing custom clothing. Happy to provide info via DM.
How much money do you make mate? Genuine question haha
You guys wear suits?
Prepandemic I would have said Suitsupply all the way. But am I the only person who thinks their prices have gone up so much they don’t stand out among similar price competitors anymore?
Spot on assessment. But baseline sub $600 half canvas suits with some detail variation is hard to beat when there’s one in every city. I wouldn’t build a wardrobe with their suits, but 1 to nail fit/details you like is still hard to match
