Hi guys, Now VMware is offering me a 35% percent hike of what I am earning at DellEmc. I just completed one year at DellEmc. Total 2.7YOE But I don't like to go out of Dell, due to some personal commitments I am planning to switch.
Is it a good time to switch?
Can I talk with my manager ?
Are they able to hike the salary of what VMware is offering? Please suggest me.

Generally it’s the latter. Industry departments would be insanely top heavy otherwise. There typically isn’t a set cadence or career progression like in PA.
At both companies I worked at…there are four levels of an individual contributor. Level 1 (0-2 years of experience). You could be promoted to level 2 (3+) years of experience on your own. Then level 3 was at least 5 YOE and generally needed to have a business need to promote to that level. Level 4 was 10+ YOE and definitely needed to have a business need to promote someone to that level.
If you weren’t an individual contributor you could be a Supervisor (Level 1 or 2). There needed to be a position open to replace and you, your coworkers and generally also outside people would need to interview for it and it’s generally competitive. You could promote up to a 2 based on experience.
Manager was a level 3 or 4 and there needed to be a position open. You generally needed to interview for it similar to the supervisor.
Supervisors lead paraprofessionals while managers lead professionals. Every supervisor reported to a manager. Every position above manager also required someone to leave.
The position needs to be open, and to be honest, it’s going to be about 75% of your politicking ability and 25% of your work in addition to BAU that gets you the promotion, at least here. There are career long seniors in industry, some are quite fine with it and others never make the jump
Have to wait until someone quits or dies
I laugh, but it's true. My director just retired, so I was able to move up to manager just as I was wanting to. Lucked put big time.
Have to wait for something to open.
