For those who have FIRE’d, what made you pull the trigger on retiring (beyond just having the money) and at what age did you retire?

We FIRE’d at 37 and 38 (spouse) a couple years back. Reason was to spend more time with our children (2 kids below 5) and travel the world and pursue other passions while we still have the health and energy.

I hit my FI number at 53 and was planning on working until 59.5 with the goal of "Fat FIRE" which for me meant about $5million invested and the ability to tap my IRA without tax penalty.

In reality I FIREd a few months before my 55th birthday after having a heart attack and spending a full week in the hospital.

For me (and my family) being alive to enjoy the fruits of my labor is more valuable than the stress of working for a potentially more lavish lifestyle.

I'm now focusing on improving both my mental and physical health, taking long walks daily (weather permitting), and keeping busy with small personal/household projects that I previously neglected in favor of my former career.

My husband retired at 57, just said he was done. I still have three more years before I reach my goals.

I had an interview last week and waiting is raising my anxiety. I am on anxiety medications and it doesn’t seem to help. I don’t know why I am getting anxious as I already know I can not control the

I have not been diagnosed with ADHD. I definitely fit some of the characteristics that go unnoticed in females. The good news is if i do have ADHD, it makes me quite good at my job as I’m very flexible and can provide positive energy to my patients. Anyway, my boss has told me I have ADHD multiple times. It seems rude when she says it, and she follows it up with “I say that because I love you” which i feel is so unprofessional all around. Anyone have guidance on how to handle this?

Feeling grateful & proud as I reached my goal ($50K by 25) 5 months early. But I can’t help feeling a bit overwhelmed. In the lifelong scheme of things, $50K doesn’t seem like much. I worked really hard and sacrificed a lot (including mental health) to get to this but it seems a little tiring knowing I still have so long to go. I recently moved out and in with my BF so my expenses are split, but nonetheless they are still expenses. Any tips on continuing this journey and keeping the drive?

Are my crypto profits taxed?

Well yes. Crypto is taxed like stocks & other types of property. When you sell for a profit, you are required to pay tax on the gains. It’s called capital gains tax.

Question about what to do next. I’ve maxed out everything—401k, HSA, IRA, backdoor Roth 401k. My bills are all paid. Get a hair transplant?

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Can you relate? Has your salary / net worth growth dramatically improved your quality of life?
