Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

Not exactly on point but I'm fed gov and was 100% WFH until last February and have since been 100% in office with extremely limited allowances for telework. I assume that most in-house won't be as insulting in their treatment of it but I have to use a lot more leave to do very minor things like meeting a contractor or having a doctor's appointment.
Beyond that, the commute feels like the biggest factor. I had the option of a higher prestige, higher in the hierarchy role with a 1-1.5 hour commute, or a standard mid-level SME role with a 20-30 minute commute and there hasn't been a single day where I've regretted picking the shorter commute. I think I could do the longer commute 1-2 days per week but 5 days? Never.
As for in person, it's fine. The vibe has definitely changed since 2019. Far more people just leaving their door closed all day. Half of my colleagues are in different time zones so it's not like I'd see them here or at home.
I was like 99% wfh at the firm and am now 5 days at the office in-house. The transition has been fine, but I also work 40 hours max per week now and have flexibility to work from home if I need to for kid stuff, appointments or whatever else comes up. If I was working more than 40 a week, I think transitioning to fully in-person would be tough.
Rising Star
Usually not bad, and often the company’s policy (not the legal department’s.) While there’s no carve out, it’s often lax in enforcement. At least at any decent department that DNGAF so long as you get your work done…
Kinda hate going to the office, ngl. In big part bc there’s an open floor plan, so it makes it hard to focus and you just don’t really have your own space. There’s also no real reason for us to be in the office other than the CEO likes it (even though he doesn’t work in the office). But the work life balance makes it worth it. I never really work last 5pm, on weekends, or holidays.
Depends on if executive staff is in. If they are (which is a few days a month), you have to stay till 5. If they’re not, I leave around 3. But we are remote like 70% of the time, thankfully. I just dread that other 30%
i am looking to leave my role because of it - but my team is very inflexible about wfh for appointments, life needs, etc.
Took me about 6 months to adjust.

I left in house because of this. My boss would literally send teams messages if I wasnt in the office asking in a very passive aggressive way if I updated my schedule. YMMV but I’m back at a firm fully remote and so much happier.
