The last time I went from a short commute, to a long commute, it took me only 2 weeks to regret taking the job. Even though it was much higher pay.
I am going from a contractor that worked remote to an AVP working 3 days in the office with an hour commute each way - will let you know my thoughts
Too long, you will regret! Short commute or WFH makes a huge difference on your life.

I’ve actually noticed some correlation between your willingness to commute and how much you enjoy your job/coworkers.
Personally, I’ve had short commutes with great salary that I hated bc it was the job not the drive that was killing me. Conversely, I’ve had long commutes that weren’t so bad bc I loved my being at the office.
That’s the boat I’m in. I work from home now at a job I like but the opportunity at this new company is a job I love and I’m really passionate about the work I’d be doing

I took a promotion 3 years ago and accepted 1-3 days in the office. I regretted it a couple of months later. My next role will be fully remote and I will never give up my freedom again.
If you don’t mind half a day in a car on a weekly basis, go for it. That’s assuming you’re driving rather than taking the train or subway. My commute is 40 minutes 3 times a week by car. I do not love it. And my coworkers who are further laugh at my pain.
It’s more than the commute, iI’s the extra time spent prepping for the commute. I like my own food - so meals. A bag for work tools. A bag for sneakers & workout gear. I’m organized. I’ve always been the type to be ready so you didn’t have to get ready. I can’t imagine carting all this crap on mass transit (and yet i did for years 🤣
If it were subway or train I at least could read. And the whole clothes situation - different environment requires different attire. So sad, too bad, no sweats or yoga pants.
I’m an early riser but if I had no place to go other than my home office, I’d definitely use my time differently. I can’t imagine commuting by car or mass transit for 2 hours.
I think i need a remote role 😂😩

I have been home for 6 years. I cant imagine going back in.
IMO, it’s situational. I used to commute 1hr each way for 3 years and didn’t bat an eyelash, BUT I didn’t have kids and my [now] husband worked there, too, so we rode together.
Now, with two kids and being the default parent, I would never do 5 days in office with more than a 10-15 minute commute. 2 days could be manageable for the right compensation.

Hang onto your remote role is my normal recommendation, although it sounds like this other role is really something you might like so I’d just be careful about what the in office requirements are. GET IT IN WRITING in your contract.

I just accepted a similar job. I'm planning on using audio books to fill the commute
I went from remote to 5 days on site for $175k. My commute is 30-40 minutes on average.
My remote role was Deloitte so it was a huge upgrade for me in terms of WLB and pay/benefits so it was worth it for me.
I am 35 and commuted most of my life so I am not sure why it’s a big deal to go in. 2 days in office with a long commute is not bad at all, focus more on the role and if you will be happy in the day to day.
I worked remotely in public accounting and was constantly miserable.
If the commute is a drive, consider if it’s an easy hour or is into/out the city with heavy traffic, stop & go, accidents, etc. I used to commute 2+ hours each way several times per month and the part of the drive with heavy traffic/construction/accidents was tough after a while.
Consider yourself blessed with this offer. You should take the job. You should be able to handle 2x per week in office for a promotion and more money. You can re-evaluate in two years. I went from hybrid very flexible near to home to 5x in office plus almost an hour each way, No regrets since better compensation package and getting experience in larger projects. I set myself up to be qualified go anywhere I want later if I decide I am tired of the grind or I want a change.
