I’ve been unemployed for about two months and you’re right—the job situation stinks. In addition to looking for work, I’m exercising, using a Fisher Wallace device for depression and praying a lot. I have to say that even though everything is not going well (and that’s putting it lightly) I’m doing ok. Hang in there, keep slugging away and you’ll find something.
I would say both are similar. It is about focused silence and either accomplishes that

3 months and stopped caring about the job search. Taking my time mentally, freaking out about UI a bit, working on my book and aiming for a relaunch in December/January.
Maybe try for freelance. My AD partner was laid off months ago but has been jumping around freelancing to pay the bills. And now we’re about to bring her back for a few months as a contractor.
I would reach out to your network and keep poking them about any freelance needs rather than trying to get hired full time right now. May be an easier way in.
Thank you - that’s the current plan! I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I don’t really need the money from freelancing (savings and unemployment covers my bills) but it makes me uncomfortable thinking about being out of the game for 6+ months. Want to keep my skills sharp.

I know it doesn’t help your situation but take solace in knowing that it CLEARLY isn’t you.
There are thousands of fantastic creatives in the exact same boat due to the economic upheaval.
Last year I went over 6 months without a job or even freelance that lasted longer than a week. Mind you that it was at a time when EVERYBODY I know was working except me.
I’ve never felt so alone in my career and despite awards, began to question my skills. Thankfully things picked up and I’ve been busy ever since, but it was definitely a terrible time.
Know that you aren’t alone OP and reason is all over the news.
Literally had the same experience yesterday. 2 hour old posting, over 150 applicants on LinkedIn alone. Recruiters are telling me they’re regularly getting 1,000+ applicants for every director level job they’re posting 😬
I would say reach out to agencies. I know two group m agencies with a lot more openings than they post on the career section of their website.
