There are laws around 1099 that make it more complicated for companies. You have to be additive to the company’s workforce, so for instance we had a guy and in order to bring him in we classified him as a specific sme, instead of just saying he was a writer. Because according to the laws, we shouldn’t hire another “company” per se to do the work that we supposedly do. It would be like farming out.
There are also other rules, like taking direction, being onsite and working certain hours that don’t apply to 1099s.

I had to go back to W2! I’m in NYC for some reason in the last two years! 1099 didn’t hire me! Only remote/W2. I didn’t mind because it allowed me to collect unemployment in the down seasons or gaps. Your state matters & also it might be diff for creatives. As far as your success rate or helping out your chosen clients yearly. When I was in healthcare. The freelancer wives were covered under their husbands insurance! You should also post in the freelance or remote bowls.
