Question about remote job negotiations

I'm currently interviewing for a remote role for a company based in NY.

The thing is I'm based in a different city (southern U.S.)

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?

Would it make sense to ask them directly how they determine comp for NY-bases vs. other city-based employees?

This is a very difficult time in the market so try to figure out what’s not working and fix it. Stick with your process while trying to improve it. Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks. I was told by the director to not mention it to anyone but I figured if anyone knew I got one it’d be my boss. I feel super uncomfortable now because do I essentially lie to my boss because I’m not supposed to talk about it.
