I will answer... standard starts at 8th grade pre algebra, we use TI 84s and I try to teach by hand first but then quick move to the calculators to help back up their answer.

I teach a hybrid of face to face and virtual instruction and we have 1 hour and 10 minutes for whole group instruction. These are fifth graders. How would you use this time to maximize learning? What strategies/methods would you use for engagement and mastery?

Anyone have a good way to actually see younger (9/10 year olds) student work when completing their math problems in real time while teaching virtually. I'm struggling with knowing what/if they are doing at home. Holding up dry erase boards to the screen is hard and time consuming!

I see posts from HS Math teachers saying they don’t give HW — I’m not opposed to the the idea, but, please, HOW?! In my experience, kids’ independent practice makes a HUGE difference in their success: they work through confusion, check their answers, analyze errors, see different types of problems, ask questions, make connections, etc. If their only practice is guided, in class, how do they get ready for independent tests?
