Got a job offer from Gartner for “Client Partner.” As much as I dislike Capgemini (currently a grade A at Cap probably get promoted in 6 months), I think I’m going to reject the offer because I’ll be only working with 1 big client at that Gartner role which may hinder me from learning; and if I move to Gartner it’d be another 2 years before a potential promotion which will look bad for my MBA app. Am I going to regret my decision? FOMO is kicking in 😞

IMO client partner is a big huge step up from Grade A/B/C so kind of surprising unless you mean you are a top end (Grade A) senior manager

likesmart

@CG1 principally you’re directionally accurate but I have seen grade b/c in solutions and sales, though very uncommon

Is the money better? Cap benefits aren’t that good and depending on what practice you are in, promotions are all over the wall.

When did you start at cap? This will give me a better idea of promo time.

Should never move jobs for anything less than 10% salary bump. Bonus arnt getting paid anytime soon due to covid economy

What in the world is “grade A”

Client Partner at Gartner is literally a call center job just FYI

likefunny

Advisors find solutions with clients... client partner is an intermediary, they’re not going to trust people with 3 YOE to actually come up with client solutions

Why did you bother applying and interviewing in the first place? Your assessment of the offered role seems accurate, but you should also consider other aspects you like and dislike about your current job. Wlb? Compensation? Culture? Colleagues?

like

Based on that info, don't jump to Gartner. Their offer is not for a job you want, it doesn't pay meaningfully more, and it doesn't seem better than getting a promo in 6 months, and it doesn't align with your future business school plans. Stick it out in consulting for another year or two. Apply for bschool in fall 2021 or 2022. Maybe jump to a more prestigious consultancy or to a job you actually want, but leaving just for the sake of getting out of capgemini isn't worth it.

I’m at Gartner (DM me if you want) not sure what you’re current role is but client partner is kind of like an assistant account executive... you’re reasonable for making sure clients actually use our research

like

Eh not really...

The consensus appears to lean to not joining Gartner in that role. Maybe stick it out for the short term until something better comes along?

What do you currently do @ cap?

I work with a lot of ex-Gartner folks at Slalom. They seem to think Gartner is going down hill. No clue why

Many consider Gartner, Forrester, Everest and similar analysts “Pay for ratings” firms. If Slalom / other firm is interested in their ratings (Vs free ratings like AWS or Azure where they probably excel) they should consider increasing their consulting and event spend in their 360 Degree commercial relationships with analysts. The more you spend with an Analyst, the more time you get to pitch what you are good at to them

like

What do you do at cap?

Unless you hate that much cap and can’t take it anymore, I suggest to keep searching since you are not very convinced about Gartner

Why would that be bad for ur mba

Stay at Cap.

Follow the money if it's better!! Cap isnt over with their layoffs

Even in Salesforce? Not the same situation in federal

My org had interactions with Gartner recently and our impression was that they are out of touch with the market, at least in the area they advised us on. I’ve used their research in the past and think it can be useful, we just weren’t very impressed with the Director Analyst we happened to speak with.

You don’t mention what office the role is based out of. I’d be more inclined to recommend considering it if it’s based in the Stamford HQ than the Fort Myers office; the latter of which is sizable but is a support and call center atmosphere that takes full advantage of lower wages in the area.

It sounds like you are early in your career which is a great time to consider making a move if it means a better opportunity with advancement potential and interesting work. If none of those is present, you’d better be seeing a sizable boost in salary because any effect on MBA admissions will be negligible.

You still think you’ll get promoted at capgemini during Corona?

They are doing lot of promotions...

Not sure what your current role is. The client partner role at Gartner is a sales role for the research organization, not consulting.

A lot of people I know at Gartner are underpaid and unsatisfied lol

Agreed

For anyone who receives a quarterly bonus or raise in some form, does your employer start to schedule you for less hours when your raise kicks in, or pull you from a future schedule entirely once you receive a bonus; only to put you back on once the hours you would have worked and earned the amount given are passed? Ie; a part time employee getting $200.00 in a quarterly bonus and then not being scheduled a whole week during a bi-weekly pay period where they would have earned more on the clock…?
