If they give you a 0% raise, that is telling you to go look elsewhere. Sorry, to be blunt but want you to know before you get let go.
Think about it. By giving zero raise you can effectively lay people off AND you don’t get the bad PR of saying “we laid off another x,xxx people in the US”
You’re being pushed out.
Start looking for a new job.
It is BS and they could fire you. I have seen many team members let go over the past year.
What was your rating?
EY 2: BDO has 4 ratings: at risk, keep developing, successful, fantastic. Keep developing after someone’s first year in a new role (example new level, new to firm, new group) is normal and expected. It means you’re meeting expectations. Keep developing while you’ve been in the role for over a year is not good. I would assume OP’s career advisor has explained this but maybe not.
Sorry to say but it means your peers are developing at a higher rate than you. All is not lost. Try and get some feedback from people you worked with and try to take it in a constructive manner. Sometimes people are too nice in reviews and it doesn’t help anyone develop when they don’t realize what they need to work on. I have seen slower developers become rock stars though. In this industry though it sometimes takes going the extra mile to be seen as a good performer and not everyone can do that just showing up and getting your work done in an 8 hr day. You don’t really know what other people in your role are doing beyond the day to day so don’t compare yourself to them. Let it be the thing that lights a fire under you and not the thing that brings you down.
That’s the plan!
Leave BDO, it’s not worth it. The firm has gone down the drain because of the ESOP and if they want you to leave, you probably should
Agree, firm negatively changed after the ESOP.
Look up “quiet firing”
Keep developing as a senior? Sounds like you may need to develop some more for a higher raise lol.
If you got zero they want you to leave. I just had this discussion with a partner about some of our seniors who are low performing. He’s giving them zero.
