Got two offers for Tax senior in NYC. The salary is similar. Deloitte international tax team and EY finance service team. Which should I take? Which firm has better benefit? I really like EY new office.

Positions sound very different imo. It would be more about what interests you more.

People on fishbowl seem to say EY benefits are worse compared to other Big 4, but I can’t confirm that since it’s the only big 4 I’ve been at. For 99% of people unlimited vacation makes it hard to take vacation. No idea what it would be like in your service line

like

I say international tax, since you already have FS compliance background that’s going to open more doors for you in the future.

Thank. Can I ask 100k for my Deloitte offer

How many years of experience do you have in total? If you are experienced senior, I would say ask for 120 or more. If newly promoted senior or would become senior with move 100K seems ok.

like

I said 90 to 100k already. Hopefully I can get 100

Do you know if there’s a specific industry you’d like to focus on? International tax could give you a broader experience and could do work on FS clients from an international perspective and switch later. Sort of feel like FS team could be a little too niche unless you know you want to work with FS clients?

Great! All comes down to if you love working with FS clients and know that’s who you want to keep working with or if you might be interested in expanding beyond that. Personally I was in a similar position and knew I wanted to broaden my horizons and am so glad I did. I love the variety and feel like I have more exit opportunities open to me than I would if I had continued to focus on FS

International tax, FS tax at any Big 4 is a nightmare

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. A commute to Vancouver 1-2 times a month needs to be possible (his job). That can be a flight if it’s not crazy. Thoughts? Recommendations?

My mind is blown by maintenance fees, esp when there are buildings with bare min amenities. Idgi. Any tips?
