Group CD is the CD of the CD’s
Group CD is short for ‘Grouper CD’ and is the giant, mighty fish that oversees all creative in the seven seas. To see it in real life, not over a zoom call, is said to be one of the most exquisite experiences known to man and justifies its high salary.
That totally makes sense. They come in rainbow colors usually?

it can take a few shapes depending on agency / brand size -
Cd of CDs and / or, a CD over a group of brands in a shared vertical (ie mobile group - Samsung, Verizon, skullcandy ) or a CD over all strains of one giant brand ( IE retail, brand, partnerships, ESG, etc) qs
May not be completely correct, but imagine Apple is the client:
- A CD may oversee a component within the client - so retail advertising, or just streaming, or just ecomm
GCD: oversees all of Apple
ECD: oversees all clients (so Apple, McDonalds, etc)

A CD will usually report either to a Group CD or ECD.
GCD is a made-up title, due to title inflation. It happens at agencies that give senior-senior creatives the title of “CD.” Their CDs are non-managerial and still create concepts, and report to the GCD. At other agencies, this GCD would be a CD.
Thanks guys, all makes sense. Does anyone know what the salary would be in NYC for a Group CD?

Depends on the agency, but a group CD generally handles a group of accounts.
