Just here to say I’m happy for you and proud of you for putting your health first. I second taking FMLA, and I hope that it gives you the time you need to get things fixed up.
Let them know you immediately you are having a health issue and trigger the process now while you get the paperwork. HR will work with you now. But when you return be focused on having different mechanisms and coping skills in place so you don’t wind up in the same situation 6-8 months from now. These jobs are hard and stressful, but you can find your way if you spend time time working on your personal strength and how to deal with it. These jobs are not for everyone, and there is no shame in not enjoying Big Law. And they are typically successful elsewhere.
Does anyone “enjoy” biglaw?

You’ll probably want a doctor’s note if you’re taking a leave under FMLA. They may ask for documentation (they being HR).
Biggest thing you need to do is take care of yourself. And as someone who went through this, and for whom the solution was not quitting but finding the right treatment, let me tell you: take the time you need to figure out what the right treatment means for you. For me it was finding the right medication and voila, a few weeks later I was doing great and have been doing so for the past almost 5 years, still in this job. I realize I'm very lucky and not everybody can effectively treat themselves with just meds, but there is a solution out there for you.
